Bravestarr - Marshal Bravestarr

Bravestarr: Bravestarr - WIP
Continuing for the demo process accompanying a student project at FZD based on the 80ies sci-fi wild west cartoon show ‘Bravestarr’.
For the next piece in the project I wanted to put a ‘realistic’ spin on the super powers of the original Marshal Bravestarr, who was able to switch between otherworldly speed, strength and perception represented by a respective spirit animal.
To also retain a hint of the Native American metaphor for Marshal Bravestarr’s powers, I opted for some kind of tribal-tech relic, an old heirloom of sorts. One incarnation for this was a modular exosuit.
Oh yeah and another ( less designy) change was to make Marshal Bravestarr a female character.
Starting from some key references I did a small warm-up design for the heroine’s gun. Sufficiently scifi and with a little more western feel to it than the clunky blasters from the original show. I also never felt that an energy weapon was a great fit for something stylistically close to the wild west, so I decided on a rail-gun as sidearm, basically doing what the old six-shooters did: accelerating a projectile :).
A couple of quick sketches first, then cleaning up my favorite one, enhancing it with a couple of drawings about the magazine, the cartridges and power source. Fun little design :)
